Agathe Snow: Tout Dit (2D)

02/11/2012

I am talking of all things that make you halt, that take over your mind at the expense of all other thoughts. Any obsession, dependence, metaphor, and all generalizations that stop you in your course, leave you flat – an illusion. You only have a back and front, depending on who is looking. - Agathe Snow

Caris Reid Studio Visit

Black Lodge

Working from her studio in Brooklyn, Caris Reid's paintings portray elegance and strength, but are also haunting, and at times, almost surreal. They are simultaneously invigorating and soothing and trap the viewer in a specific moment in time - although time does not necessarily exist in her brushstrokes. With attributes like these inherent in her work, it seems fitting that Caris' latest exhibition - a group show at Interstate Projects titled Black Lodge - is inspired by David Lynch's Twin Peaks.

The videos, conceived by curator/filmmaker Aaron Rose fuse original pieces of music by modern recording artists with famous texts by contemporary artists. The texts are then animated to create a modern take on the artist's words and work. The music and visuals have been created specifically for this project.

Antony Gormley: Horizon Field Hamburg

British sculptor Antony Gormley recently created this stunning 2,500 square meter structure titled, Horizon Field Hamburg at the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg, Germany. A reflective black platform is suspended 7.5 meters above the floor by eight 22-millimeter cables in an attempt to disorientate and destabilise each individual viewer by conveying space as an expanding condition, as well as commenting on and exemplifying the social nature of space.

I SCREAM FACTORY

Alexandra Plesner is the life force behind I Scream Factory, an ongoing collective project that exists primarily online and showcases the talents of up-and-coming photographers through the mediums of, well, photography and ice cream. Beginning its life as a multisensory MA project at Central Saint Martins college in London, Alexadnra quickly found herself inundated with calls from potential collaborators keen to get involved in the project.
