Geert Goiris: DARKCLOUD

09/09/2012

For his second solo exhibition at Art: Concept, Geert Goiris presents a new series of photographs that mix landscapes, portraits, unknown places and subterranean worlds. Freeing the subject from its literal interpretation, Geert Goiris’s pieces manage to somehow act on the senses and perception of every individual. The spectator loses all cultural benchmarks and is brought to see and understand forms according to his own scheme of thought. At first sight, Geert Goiris’s photographs could be qualified as abstract because they don’t seem to have any points of reference.

Departure (An Experiment in Human Salvage)

06/09/2012

Departure (An Experiment in Human Salvage) is a performance involving live tattooing on Dominic Johnson’s hands, carried out by the renowned tattoo artist Alex Binnie. The tattoos function as permanent archival documents of performance, and as art works in their own rights. Pain and the wound are therefore incidental to the production of a striking permanent image on the body – in Departure as well as in tattooing as a traditional cultural practice more generally. How might disaster be represented or produced without recourse to sacred imagery?

// Departure will show at London’s Chelsea Theatre’s SACRED season on October 25th 2012.

Parisian retailer colette has teamed up with Knoll Textiles to produce a new range of modern furniture, aimed at a younger generation. Judging by the preview above, we can expect exciting results. The chairs shown above are reworkings of Harry Bertoia's "Diamond" chair, presented in blue colorway iterations synonymous with the retailer – as well as splashes of chrome with white Rilsan finish.

Camille Vivier @ 12Mail

12Mail, Red Bull France's exhibition and creative space ends its third year of operations by hosting an exhibition of work by French photographer, Camille Vivier.  In the words of Fabrice Paineau, chief editor at Double Magazine, "...Bodies are framed, embedded and enclosed in a photograph. Caught in between limited spaces: in the depths of a boulder, on a rocky edge, on the top of a shelf. Impossible to escape. Bodies and curios end their way here: still lives aiming at anthropomorphic shapes.

Russian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2012

03/09/2012

Curated by Sergei Tchoban and Sergey Kuznetsov of SPEECH Tchoban & Kuznetsov, the top floor of the Russian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale is completely covered in QR codes, which visitors decode using tablet computers to explore ideas for a new Russian city dedicated to science. Downstairs, visitors are able to take a look, through lenses, at the gated and secretive science towns established under the Soviet Union, intended to provide a contrast with the open and collaborative vision presented upstairs.
